Full payment will be taken at time of confirmation. A 20% non refundable inclusive deposit is secured at time of confirmation. In the event of cancellation this amount will not be refunded, see cancellation policy for full cancellation rules.
Hirers must be at least 21 years of age and have a full, valid drivers licence. International driving licences are accepted but not required. Hirers must have a credit card for an imprint to be taken for insurance bond. Please note cash is not an option for the bond. Visa Debit cards can be accepted for the bond, however the relevant excess level for the hire will be held on the card as security and automatically released after the hire is returned. A bond of up to $150 may be held to cover incidentals.
Rates include comprehensive third-party and public liability
insurance. Insurance excess applies with standard insurance cover, as follows:
NZ$2,000 for Groups EAA, EC, EG
NZ$2,500 for Groups A, B, C, X, D, G, F
NZ$3,500 for Groups EP, P, M8, M12
Insurance excesses can be waived to NIL by purchasing our collision damage waiver (CDW). It can be prepaid or booked and paid
on arrival. Glass damage cover is included. Please specify PREPAID if so when making a booking.
Cancellation & No Show Fees will be charged at 1 days’ hire cost, based on the booking being cancelled or that no showed.
Cancellation fees are charged when bookings are cancelled within 48hrs of the scheduled pick up time. No cancellation fees are
charged for bookings cancelled prior to 48hrs before the schedule pick up time.
Minimum hire period during our Summer Season is 3 days in one island or 7 days total in both islands. During our Spring & Winter seasons our minimum hire period goes down to 1 day in one island, and 7 days total in both islands.
A Minimum Hire Period of 5 days is applicable on all multi-island rentals.
An Interisland Relocation Fee of NZ$230 applies for hires travelling one way across both islands. Customers must take the vehicle
across with them on the ferry at their own expense. Passenger and vehicle ferry tickets are not included.
An On Airport fee of NZ$20 applies for hires commencing in Dunedin, and a Remote Fee of NZ$65 applies for hires picking up or dropping off in Greymouth. If hire is picking up and dropping off in Greymouth, only one $65 remote fee applies. A $40 remote fee applies for pick up or drop off in Paihia/Opua from our Bay of Islands Branch, for new bookings picking up from the 1st
of May 2013 onwards. Please note we no longer offer transfers to/from the City from our Dunedin Branch (which is located at the airport).

Dunedin on airport fee:
$20 per hire for hires commencing in Dunedin;
Christchurch on airport fee:
$40 per hire for hires commencing in Christchurch;
Greymouth remote fee - $65 per pick up OR drop off in Greymouth. If customer is picking up AND dropping off in Greymouth, only 1 remote fee is charged.
Customers must take the car over on the ferry with them when travelling across both islands.
Passenger and vehicle ferry tickets are covered at customers own expense;
For multi island hires travelling one way across both islands, an interisland relocation fee of NZ$230 is applicable;
Customers keep the same vehicle for the whole hire when crossing the Cook Straight, saving time, hassle and precious holiday time by not having to swap vehicles on each side, unpack, do double the rental car paperwork, etc. MUCH easier, especially for families with children!
We can book fully flexible tickets for your customers if you wish us to add these to their rental car booking.
These tickets are able to be changed or cancelled right up until the sailing date.
How many drivers can be on the agreement?
Ezi-Rent includes 2 named drivers free-of-charge in the base rental car hire cost. Additional drivers (from the 3rd driver and above) are an additional NZ$5.00 per day per driver. Extra drivers can be arranged on arrival.
Are Ezi Rent's rental prices all inclusive?
Ezi-Rent has no hidden fees. Our prices are in New Zealand dollars (NZD) and include Goods and Services Tax (GST) at 15%, unlimited kilometres and standard third party and public liability insurance. Click here to find out more about car rental insurance.
Will I get a refund if I return my rental car early?
Refunds are not given for early returns. Your travel insurance provider may cover you if you return your rental car early due to illness or unforeseen changes in your travel plans, so you would need to claim the amount for the unused days from them.
What are your minimum hire terms?
1 Island - 3 day minimum hire (during both Summer seasons)
1 Island – 1 day minimum hire (during Winter season)
Both Islands – 7 days minimum hire (all year)
Are customers insured for vehicle damage on ferry journeys around NZ?
Yes – customers are insured as normal as per their insurance policy taken out with us at the time of pick up. This includes the Interislander Ferry, Waiheke Ferry and Great Barrier Ferry.
Is Ezi Rent open on public holidays?
Ezi-Rent Car Hire is open every day except Christmas Day (25 December) and New Years Day (01 January) each year.
Do I take my rental car on the Interislander ferry?
Yes. Ezi-Rent makes crossing the Cook Strait EZI! You simply keep the same rental car for your whole hire. You save loads of precious holiday time not having to unpack, swap vehicles, carry your luggage across on the ferry and pick up a new car on the other side!
With Ezi-Rent Car Hire, you simply drive onto the Interislander ferry on one side and drive off once arriving at the other side! You can also include your fully flexible Interislander Ferry tickets with your Ezi-Rent Car Hire booking.

Are there any roads I cannot drive on?
You can drive Ezi Rent rental cars on any road except:
* Ball Hut Road (Mount Cook)
* Skipper Road (Queenstown)
* 90 Mile Beach (Northland)
* State Highway 38 Lake Waikaremoana.
* Any off road driving including any beaches.
These roads are not part of normal touring routes and you will not be insured if you drive on these roads, or drive on any beaches or take part in any off road driving at any time during your hire.
Am I covered in the unlikely event of a breakdown?
Ezi-Rent uses the Automobile Association (AA) Breakdown Service which is available throughout New Zealand.
We have our own freephone number which you can call for assistance should you encounter any problems.

Will my car have a CD player/USB port?
All Ezi-Rent rental cars have CD players, stereos and are compatible with NZ Kruse Commentary units. Some of our Premium Category range vehicles have AUX and USB ports so that you can use and charge your technology on the go. Please request this when booking if you require an AUX or USB in your rental car.
Can I request a certain make/model?
We will note any requests for vehicle models or body styles and do our best to provide the vehicle you have requested, however we cannot guarantee makes or models.
How old do I have to be to hire with Ezi Rent? Is there a maximum age?
You can hire a car with Ezi-Rent if you are at least 21 years of age and you hold a current, valid NZ or international drivers licence. There is no maximum age to hire with us. As long as you licence is valid!
What driving licence do I need to hire with Ezi Rent?
You must hold a valid driver licence from your home country. An International Driver’s Licence is not required but is accepted. The law requires us to sight your licence when you collect your rental car. All foreign driver licence holders must carry an English translation of their licence in order to drive on New Zealand roads.
Terms of booking on this website
The rates on this website are often heavily discounted. This is due to our negotiated rates and bulk buying power. On very rare occasions, a rate may be displayed incorrectly due to our, or a vehicle supplier's error. In such a case, if you book with us at a quoted rate that is incorrect, we will notify you of any price change and give you the option to proceed or cancel. We make every effort to keep information on our site up to date, but we cannot guarantee this website is free of errors or omissions and retain the right to update or change the information published at any time.
To the extent permitted by law we/the owners of this website will not be liable to you or to any third party (whether in contract, tort, or otherwise) for any direct, indirect or consequential loss or damage (including but not limited to any accident, injury, delay or loss of enjoyment) arising out of your reliance upon information contained on this website, including but not limited to your use (or inability to use) any products or services described or procured through this website.
When you pick up your vehicle, you will be required to sign a rental agreement with the supplier of the vehicle. Your rental and use of the vehicle will be governed by the terms of the rental agreement and any other documentation or information provided to you by the supplier at the time you pick up your vehicle. The rental agreement is between you and the supplier and we will not be liable to you or to any third party in relation to the terms of the supplier's rental agreement or any other documentation provided to you by the supplier at the time of pick up.
While we will make reasonable efforts to ensure we are representing only reputable suppliers, we make no warranty about the fitness or suitability of any third party (supplier) product or service and will not accept responsibility for the quality or fitness of any vehicle. We welcome feedback from our customers on their experience with our suppliers. We may, at our discretion, provide you with reasonable assistance in resolving any dispute you may have with a supplier.
Our total liability to you in relation to your use of this website and the information contained on this website will not exceed the dollar amount of the deposit we have received from you in relation to your booking/rental. Refunds will not be made for bookings cancelled due to inclement weather. Again, we strongly recommend that you take out travel insurance. Your use of this website is governed by the laws of New Zealand and the jurisdiction of the New Zealand courts.
To make a booking you must complete our booking form which is easy to follow and secured with the latest encryption technology. Once we receive your form, we will, subject to availability, confirm your booking by emailing you a confirmation voucher and invoice.
If you are booking via phone, please make sure you have read the terms and conditions of the vehicle you wish to rent first. Our reservations consultant will ask you if you have read the terms and agree to them before proceeding. The onus is always on the renter to ensure they make themselves fully aware of the terms displayed on our website.
In booking on this website you acknowledge that we disclose your information to your selected Supplier in order to provide the requested rental services.
Vehicle capacity and fitness to drive
Under no circumstances are you permitted to carry more passengers than the vehicle you rent is legally registered to carry, and if you do your insurance may be invalidated. The number of seatbelts (and passengers) is indicated next to each vehicle on this website. Luggage capacity where shown is an indication only and we will not be responsible should you be unable to fit your entire luggage into a vehicle. It is your responsibility to choose a journey that is within your capabilities. A vehicle supplier can refuse to rent a vehicle to any person who is in their opinion unfit to drive or does not meet eligibility requirements. In such circumstances we will have no further liability to you.
In the event of cancellation, any deposit amounts paid at the time of booking are non-refundable.
If you are unsatisfied with our service, please contact us within 48 hours of placing your booking or request and we will work to resolve any issues and determine if compensation is due. In the event you have completed your rental and are unhappy with your vehicle, we are happy to assist you in seeking compensation from the operator of the vehicle.
